The 2009 fantasy baseball season came to a close on Tuesday night with an extra inning affair between the Twins and Tigers. What a fitting way to end a season full of exciting battles within the Elite fantasy baseball system, as several leagues needed game 163 to break ties and crown champions. In just our second season, we've seen the level of competition within Elite rise beyond our expectations. The Elite League, which represents the 12 best managers in our system, is already redefining the term "expert league." Things are only going to get tougher in 2010 and I can't wait.
If the Rookie Gulf Coast League is any indication, our farm leagues are well on their way to achieving expert status as well. The GCL was a beast from start to finish, claiming the #2 spot in the league power rankings for the majority of the year. The AAA Pacific Coast League was impressive once again and played host to one of the evenly matched leagues I've ever witnessed. Battles from top to bottom played out through the final day of the season, not one dead team among them. The Frontier League, the highest ranked AA team, was also solid from top to bottom all season, as several Frontier managers made their way into the top 20 throughout the year. The Florida State and NY-Penn Leagues lead the way for the Single-A division, showing us just how much depth we already have in the Elite system.
I'd like to thank every manager that helped make 2009 a great season of growth for Elite. I sincerely hope that all of you will continue to compete with us as we achieve new heights. Congratulations to the 2009 League Champions:

I know that this won't be the most popular sentiment, but you really should give some extra weight to the "Elite" league.
I know that I only pulled like a 41 last year on your list, but finished 4th in Elite after winning it the year before. It seems somewhat unfair to be judged in these rankings when I'm facing the top guns from every other league year after year. I wouldn't want it any other way, but it seems kind of funny that a guy that is in the bottom rankings facing 11 guys that might have never won a league is going to trounce me in these rankings if he can build an uber team off of inferior competition while every single guy in elite has a feather in their cap. You really think I would rank as the #41 player overall? That is fine if you really think that, but I think it is a distinct disadvantage to face the best of the best and then be judged along a criteria that will reward those in mediocre leagues.
I'm not sure how you would weight it, but I think you guys get what I'm saying.
Anyway, I've really enjoyed the experience so far and I've had a lot of fun the last couple of seasons in the Elite League.
