Cedric Benson RB, CIN- You knew this guy had to head the list. I mean he still is Cedric Benson. A former top 5 pick by the Bears and was dumped within a few years. Cincy has picked up and so far struck gold. Currently, Benson has 531 rush yds for the season which ranks him 3rd in the NFL. In PPR leagues, he is the 6th ranked RB. There is no way I see him continuing this torrid pace. A definite sell high candidate. You should be able to acquire a low end #1 WR/high end #2 WR in your leagues. Someone will think he is for real. Dont take the risk and let someone else see if he will maintain this pace. His upcoming 3 games look rather tough. He will face the Bears, PIT, and BAL. These are all quality rush defenses. If you can land someone like Vincent Jackson then move Benson asap.
Brett Favre QB, MIN- Guys, he put this same kind of performance on with the Jets last year. They started out real strong out of the gates and then faded at the end of the season and choked the division to the Fins last year. I am not sure if they will choke the NFC North. But there is no way I see Favre being as good as he has been. Sure, AP allows single coverage to his WR's etc. But already Favre and the Vikings have escaped 2 close calls. They were about 10 seconds away from losing vs the 49ers and if BAL's kickers puts that field goal through at the end of regulation, we would not be talking about the undefeated Vikings. Favre has thrown the 3rd most TD's to date with 12 while only having 2 INT. For comparison sakes, lets look at Favre's numbers from last season through 6 weeks. From this time period last year, Favre threw 13 TD and 6 INT. Pretty close numbers to what he has now through 6 weeks. Now still looking at least year's numbers from Week 7 on he threw 9 TD's and 16 INT. So we expect a similar let down this year right? I dont think he will be that bad this year but I dont see Favre finishing as a top 7-10 QB. The only real bad team in his upcoming schedule is the Detroit Lions. Otherwise, he faces teams like the Giants, Bears, Steelers etc. These teams wont allow Favre to go for 300 pass yds with 3 TDs. The downward spiral is coming for Favre. Find another QB through trade or FA to handcuff him.
Joe Flacco QB, BAL- What happened to the BAL teams that were a grind it out type team? So far Flacco has displayed his best Drew Brees skill set. Four out of BAL's first 6 games Flacco has thrown for more than 250 yds while throwing for 2 or more TD's in four of his first 6 games. The guy is on a mission so far. Looking poised in the pocket and making smart decisions. Do I expect this pace to continue? No, but I dont feel he is as overrated as the guy above. Sure, expect some of those numbers to fall but ride out the hot streak as long as it lasts. I feel he will be on the borderline of a top 10 QB by season end. Whoever grabbed this guy late in drafts are looking very smart. And did I mention he is the 6th ranked QB in my PPR league. Outscoring guys like Kurt Warner and Jay Cutler.
Hines Ward WR, PIT- If I gave you 30 seconds to tell me who leads the league in receiving, who would you guess? Andre Johnson? Randy Moss? Welker? Wrong, in fact Hines Ward is the current leader in terms of receiving. He has been very steady this year and his worst game is a 6 reception 57 yard performance vs the Bears. Heck, that is still 11 pts in my PPR league. The question is do we expect Big Ben to continue the aerial assault in Steel City? I am leaning towards no. Mendenhall has now taken over the bulk of the carries and has held his own so far. Ben should not have to air out as much as he did but Ward will still be an asset. In PPR leagues, he is the 4th ranked WR to date. Dont expect this to last but he should finish among the top 35 WR's in the league. Enjoy the hot streak while it lasts. And if you can deal for a good RB straight up, go for it. If you can buy Matt Forte low, I recommend it.
Vernon Davis TE, SF- Wow, a guy that every fantasy sports outlet has dubbed as the hot thing for the past 3 years. Well, guess what the 4th time is the charm. VD has putting together a very respectable year. Everyone knew he had talent but some would say he never put it together. I beg to differ as he never saw a consistent amount of targets each week. This has changed this year. Here are VD's targets by each week: 7, 6, 10, 4, 12. He will be a solid contributor but think of him as a low end #1 TE/high end #2 TE. To date, he is putting up numbers similar to Tony Gonzalez. He wont come close to Tony's final number but will finish around the 10-12 range in terms of TE numbers.
